Cosmetically it may bear similarities to big-budget franchises "Assassin's Creed" (clambering around intimidating enemy encampments) and "Batman: Arkham" (a superbly proficient close combat fighting hero), but by daring to innovate on those established franchises and creating a sophisticated, engrossing and evolving society of antagonists, "Shadow of Mordor" should be populating a panopoly of 2014's Game of the Year retrospectives before very long.
